Local Veterans Notice Grace Deliver Another Prog Rock Classic with “Nakid”
Atlanta’s progressive rock and metal scene has been gathering momentum in recent years, and there are a number of artists who have been integral to this growth. Notice Grace is one of them. It’s really exciting to see a band made up of musicians who have been active, locally, for decades still working hard and releasing quality material like their latest album Nakid.
Nakid begins straight out the gate with “One Man’s Trial”, a song detailing an epic journey which calls to mind the work of classic prog rock bands like Styx, Kansas, and ELP. The band's songwriting prowess and chops as players are on full display.
The album is arranged perfectly from start to finish, with every track flowing smoothly, dealing with themes familiar to fans of classic prog (epic acts of heroism, gripping tales of science fiction, etc.), rich with metaphors and symbolism, and culminating with the somber political number, “City on a String”.
This album demands a lot from the listener, needing their full attention at all times in order to grasp and understand every part of it. You may miss something vital if you divert your attention for a moment. However, even casual listeners will still able to enjoy each composition. An epic and heavily dynamic record from from start to finish, full of lush keyboards, tasteful guitars, and melodic vocals, Nakid is a very satisfying, well crafted, and entertaining release. It's an instant classic
