On Cinco De Mayo in Acworth, GA, the crowd at Connect Live got the first glimpse of Atlanta's newest indie rock outfit, Edelwood, which consists of members and alumni of Sarah & The Safe Word, as well as the now defunct Liquid Culture. As the band took to the stage and began to play, it was clear that their prior experiences had helped shape them into an exciting live act. The group’s songs, which often featured smooth, dreamy, and trance-like guitar lines, blended together in a way that gave their entire set a sense of unity. One could almost lose sight of the intensity and accuracy of Edelwood’s playing, set at ease by the disarming quality of their music.
A standout moment came in the middle of the group’s performance when, after addressing the audience, they launched headlong into the night’s most upbeat tune, “The Other Side”, an indie pop jam that kicked off with a joyous high guitar lead and made one want to jump around and dance. After closing with their debut single “Problem Child,” Edelwood exited the stage to the loudest ovation of the entire evening, which seems to signal great things to come for this new group of local music scene veterans.
