"Ride" - The New Single By Johnny Hendrix
You may know him best as the frontman of the Atlanta progressive/indie/math rock band Cascadent (formerly known as Aoshi). However, Johnny Hendrix is also an artist in his own right – a profoundly gifted and remarkably well-rounded multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter with a stunning vocal range and a deep appreciation for all kinds of music. And with the release of his debut single, “Ride”, he’s ready to let the local scene (and the world) know it.
“Ride” is a smooth, laid back R&B-pop crossover number which calls to mind some of the best, most enduring radio hits of the late 90’s/early 2000’s, but never sinks too deeply into indulgent nostalgia. Rich vocal harmonies abound, and the song is anchored by an infectiously groovy jazz-tinged repeating electric guitar figure. At the heart of the song’s appeal is Hendrix’s highly developed sense of melody, and as a result, listeners should not be surprised in the least if they find themselves irresistibly compelled to hum and/or sing “Ride” throughout their day. It’s that catchy.
Wise production decisions, courtesy of Corey Childs (who is also producing Johnny’s forthcoming debut EP) add to the polished, professional sound of the single, and give it a uniquely balanced sound that is at once both organic and intimate, as well as sleek and stadium-ready.
