GLS First Listen: The Hearsay Premieres "Summer? I Hardly Know Her!"
The Hearsay is an Alternative Pop/Rock band from outside of the perimeter that began in 2016 as an acoustic duo composed of Ashton May and Travis Schmidt (both vocalists for the band). With the addition of lead guitarist Jeff Holcombe and drummer Ryan Sterritt in 2017, The Hearsay perfected their strong melodies and catchy hooks. Their new single “Summer? I Hardly Know Her!” is a perfect example of May’s lyricism. According to May, “the song is a head-bopping, fun-loving, summery pop-rock tune. The lyrics touch on the fickleness of dating culture, and how we always seem to latch onto those who have no real interest in us while doing the same thing to those that are actually interested. Relationships, like the seasons, have an ebb and flow, every beginning has an ending.”
“Summer? I Hardly Know Her!” is the type of song you’d put on repeat on your Summer Road Trip playlist. Each verse showcases clean guitar tones and fun vocal harmonies reminiscent of 1950’s Doo-Wop, while a more modern pop/rock sound shines through the chorus and bridge.
Fittingly, this single comes at the end of a whirlwind, jam-packed summer of shows for The Hearsay, and is just a taste of what’s to come for their upcoming LP.
“Summer? I Hardly Know Her!” was recorded, mixed and mastered by Damon Moon at Standard Electric Recorders Co. in Atlanta.
